LETTER FROM DENNIS COLEMAN
What a tremendous response we had for Come Together, the Music of The Beatles.
You turned out in record numbers in Seattle, Renton, Wenatchee, and Langley for this concert. Songs by The Beatles reached across all age groups and proved
again that certain songs will always be popular and a part of our common culture.
We will recapture that feeling on June 22 and 23 as Seattle Men’s Chorus (SMC) presents Sing Out: You Pick the Hits.
You did pick many of the selections for this concert by voting online. And you will be joining us in singing some wellknown songs like “True Colors”
and “Dancing Queen” during the concert.
We invite you to submit a video of you singing your favorite song for a chance to sing on stage at McCaw Hall with the men of the Chorus.
Your fellow audience members will vote on their favorite soloist using their cell phones at intermission. You could be crowned that night’s
“Chorus Idol.”
In July, our Choruses and their small ensembles travel to Denver to participate in the world’s largest gay and lesbian performing arts
festival. Over 150 other gay choruses, ensembles, and small groups from around the US, Canada, and Europe will sing for one another. We will welcome leaders,
for the first time, from newly formed choruses in Mexico and China! The Esoterics, conducted by Eric Banks; Diverse Harmony, Seattle’s gay/straight
alliance youth chorus directed by Jared Brayton Bollenbacher; and Seattle Women’s Chorus (SWC) will also join SMC on the stage at McCaw Hall in June
before we leave for Denver for the GALA Festival 2012.
WE'VE GOT A GREATE LINE-UP OF CONCERTS SCHEDULED FOR NEXT SEASON!
SMC visits the tropics this holiday season followed by a concert in April 2013 that will combine two of our past favorites:
Leslie Jordan and ABBA, and the Men’s Chorus ends their season with a concert in collaboration with the 5th Avenue Theatre in June 2013.
SWC kicks off their season with four October concerts in the superb acoustics of Seattle’s Saint Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral followed by a
10th anniversary seasonending celebration in February 2013 at Benaroya Hall with special guest Vicci Martinez of NBC”s The Voice.
SMC and SWC are powerful voices for Washington State’s LGBT community and we are committed to working hard this summer to make us the
first state in the nation to approve marriage equality for all of its citizens by a vote of the people. Look for marriage equality moments in each concert
coming up and for a number of concerts in cities throughout the Puget Sound area this Fall. If you haven’t already, please go to
WashingtonUnitedForMarriage.org and sign up to show your support. The goal is to have more signatures on hand than the
opposition gathers to put a referendum on the ballot. Let’s blow the wind out of their sails right from the start.
Tell your personal stories to family and friends, and encourage them to support marriage equality. Together, we can do this!
